Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin
The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is the official gold coin of Canada. It was first minted in 1979 by the Royal Canadian Mint and contains gold extracted and refined from Canadian mines. The face value of the coins do not reflect the underlying value of the gold within however; and therefor do not usually trade as tender despite being fully legal.

The Canadian Gold Maple Lead is renown throughout the world for its purity. This high purity results in a coin that is easy susceptible to wear and is considered more investment grade then circulation grade. The first sets of Canadian Gold Maple Leaf contains released between 1979 and 1981 have a gold purity of 99.9%, but coins minted afterwards are at the high standard of 99.99%. The Royal Canadian Mint also releases special edition Gold Maple Leaf coins of various sizes and purities including the world standard setting 99.999% pure gold Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin.

The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is available in many sizes depending on year of issue. 1/20oz, 1/15oz, 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, and 1oz coins are the common sizes. In 2007, a 100 kg coin was produced with a face value of 1,000,000, but a gold content value near double its face value. The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf contains the image of a Maple Leaf on one side, and Queen Elizabeth II on the other.
